PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Purpose summary

Responsible for establishing a maintenance and preventative maintenance programme for all plant machinery, equipment and ensuring that this is carried out by subordinates. Utilises machinery and material resources according to plans developed in conjunction with immediate superior. Ensures plant operates cost effectively with minimum downtime. Resolves day-to-day technical problems on the production line and ensures equipment and machinery compliance with production procedures and processes specifications related to mechanical, machinery, instrumental & electrical or civil works. Manages the engineering maintenance for the infrastructure, plant and logistics functions on the mine while ensuring optimum maintenance planning, coordinates asset management programme and ensures optimal return on assets in line with the engineering strategy and policy.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Financial and budgetary effectiveness
  • Manages the annual budget that represents best estimate of costs and supports the attainment of organisation and MRM financial objectives;
  • Allocates and monitors the utilisation of allocated funds to enable the attainment of objectives;
  • Regularly reviews, monitors and responds to spend against budget;
  • Manages and reports expenditure according to standard procedure; and
  • Identifies and manages potential risks that could result in increased costs.
  • Maintenance planning effectiveness
  • Extracts the maintenance requirements from the engineering strategy and executes the functional business plan;
  • Leads the compilation, implementation and execution of the maintenance schedule, ensuring adequate standards are met in line with approved company processes, systems and technology;
  • Provides maintenance on mechanical, mining and plant assets; and
  • Implements, maintains and enhances maintenance planning policies and processes in a manner that will ensure:
    • Highlighting of sub-standard performance, processes and systems;
    • Employees understanding their roles and being managed in a manner as to perform to the requirements of their roles;
    • Equipment being supplied, used and maintained in a manner supportive of the achievement of operational objectives; and
  • Implement, maintain and conduct root cause analysis, strategy to ensure sustainable, availability and reliability of all equipment as per target.
  • People management/leadership
  • Provides management/leadership and guidance to the engineering function and its employees; ensuring:
    • Attraction, recruitment, development and motivation of employees;
    • Alignment, measurement and management of employees efforts and performance towards the attainment of function and organisational objectives;
    • Resolving of disputes, grievances and conflicts; and
    • Ensure positive employee morale at all times.
  • Ensures the proper utilisation of Human Resources for the engineering function to ensure a competent skills base for the continued success of the function and organisation through;
  • Plans, coordinates and supervises of engineering maintenance work schedules and activities; ensuring employee and contractor performance against production requirements are met; and
  • Ensures a healthy and safe work environment for employees.
  • Customer relations management
  • Manages internal customer expectations; identifies performance standards, customer requirements and the effective delivery of engineering services to the business;
  • Manages the maintenance engineering functions performance in terms of agreed KPA/KPI’s and effectiveness areas;
  • Drives customer satisfaction throughout the provision of engineering maintenance services;
  • Builds relationship across the organisation by sharing business information, knowledge and expertise; and
  • Improve internal and external customer relations Stakeholder engagement and management
  • Manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote objectives of the company;
  • Ensures that the needs of organisational stakeholders are prioritised and managed including:
    • Mine HODs and Managers;
    • Colleagues and employees; and
  • Works with colleagues, contractors and staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve problems.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Diploma / NQF level 6: Related to Engineering
  • Government Certificate of Competency in Mines and Works
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • Up to 10 years in a similar role
